The Kalish Method of Functional Medicine

The three body system approach to improving your health

Functional medicine doctors use laboratory testing to identify imbalances in the body's hormonal, digestive and detoxification systems. These tests are different than the ones commonly performed by your primary care physician. Functional medicine tests are designed to find health issues before disease occurs so that they may be reversed with natural therapies and lifestyle changes avoiding the use of drugs or surgery.

Dr. Richart uses the Kalish Method in treating his patients. A pioneer in functional medicine,  Dr. Daniel Kalish has spent the last twenty years creating a clinical model of functional medicine that makes sense and gets results. Formal recognition came in 2016 when the Mayo Clinic performed a study on functional medicine using his method. The study showed significant improvements in GI health and quality of life. The study showed that the Kalish method was effective in obtaining excellent clinical results in treating what is commonly referred to as the Big Five disorders. The Big Five disorders include fatigue, weight gain, depression, digestive issues including heartburn and female hormone issues.

Dr. Richart personally experienced most of the BIg Five disorders in his own health challenges and successfully used the Kalish Method in treating them. He uses the techniques and methodologies of the Kalish Method in assessing and treating many of the health issues he sees in his practice.

A typical case will involve testing of the hormonal, digestive and detoxification systems of the body. These tests use saliva, stool and urine samples that the patients collects at home and sends to the labs using FedEx or UPS. A thorough history, lifestyle review, program design, implementation and follow up progress checks are all part of the program. Treatment may include some or all of the following; lifestyle changes, dietary changes, exercise, stress reduction techniques and short term use of nutritional supplements. Supplements are not "permanents". They are taken for only a short duration. In most cases lifestyle and dietary changes make a bigger difference in long term health.

With just three tests Dr. Richart can assess the neuroendocrine, GI and detox systems. The tests assess the adrenals, neurotransmitters, energy systems, hormones, GI pathogens, leaky gut, the microbiome and food sensitivities, detoxification, whole body inflammation, oxidation, methylation and nutrient replacement.

Stress impacts everyone. No one can escape it. The body is affected by this stress and in time our health suffers. Rather than treating the symptoms functional medicine is a path back to returning to the person you used to be, vibrant, healthy, happy.
