Richart Chiropractic and Functional Medicine

Office Updates during the Covid-19 Pandemic

Our office is open during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are following the guidance of the CDC, WHO, Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois Chiropractic Society.
Currently we are seeing new and established functional medicine patients. Functional medicine patients have the option of telemedicine visits as well. Please call our office to schedule a consultation appointment for functional medicine with Dr. Richart.
Our online dispensary Wellevate is open. It is an easy way for you to purchase the supplements you need online and a safe place to order quality supplements that are stored and shipped properly to ensure efficacy. Over 300 brands are available at very competitive prices.
For chiropractic patients, effective 6/1/2020, we reopen our office to all patients with the updated safety procedures as listed below.

Update on 7/1/2020

During phase 4 of reopening, we will operate as though as if it is still phase 3. We are doing our best effort to provide a clean and safe environment in our office. We are cleaning our equipment and touch points between patients and checking temperatures. We are wearing masks and following the advice of our state society, the IDPH and CDC.

Until the number of cases drop lower, we will operate as we have been. We continue asking all of our patients that you observe the following procedures.

  1. Please continue to call us when you arrive. You can call us either from your car or our first floor lobby. It’s hot out there. Please feel free to come inside and wait in our first floor lobby. There are two chairs and a bench there which you may use.

  2. Please do not come into the office without first contacting us!

  3. Unless necessary for assisting the patient, we are asking that only the patient come into the office. Family, friends and drivers are requested to remain in the car or the building lobby.

  4. Once inside, please use our hand sanitizer. If you are wearing gloves, we ask that you change them after coming into the office.

Thank you for your kind understanding and cooperation.

Update on 5/29/2020

We are reopening our office to all patients starting on Monday June 1st. However, we will still have protective measures in place for everyone’s safety.
When we reopen, we will ask that you observe the following procedures.

  1. Please wait in your car and call us at 847-657-8686 upon your arrival. We will let you know when to come up. PLEASE DO NOT COME INTO THE OFFICE WITHOUT CALLING FIRST!

  2. Unless necessary for assisting the patient, we are asking that only the patient come into the office. Family, friends and drivers are requested to remain in the car or the building lobby.

  3. Face masks are required. If you are wearing gloves, we ask that you remove them before entering. You can put on a fresh pair once inside our office if you desire. Washing hands and using hand sanitizer are the best ways to prevent cross contamination of hands, body and face. Please use hand sanitizer upon entering.

  4. We will continue to check temperatures.

  5. We will continue to clean our equipment and touch points between patients.

  6. You may be asked to fill out a brief questionnaire upon arrival.

Our goal is to create a clean safe facility in which our patients can continue to receive the best care we can provide. The building management has added enhanced janitorial services designed to kill Covid-19 and have also made changes to the ventilation system to allow more outside air in and they are changing the air filters more frequently.

We will be limiting the number of patients that we see daily so that only one patient is seen at a time. Please try to arrive on time. We are currently not accepting walk in patients. We will need time to clean and sanitize between each patient visit. To be able to best serve all of our patients, not all services will be available such as multiple elective therapies.

Update on 5/1/2020

The stay at home order issued by Governor Pritzker has been modified and extended until the end of May. Dr. Richart continues to read the guidance from the WHO, CDC and Illinois Chiropractic Society. While some healthcare facilities are reopening for elective procedures, the current information suggests that chiropractic physicians should continue to treat emergency visits only.

We have talked with many patients who anxiously await our reopening because of their aches, pains and desire to receive a chiropractic adjustment. Dr. Richart wishes that he could treat them all. However, in compliance with the stay at home order, we will continue to be treating chiropractic patients for emergency problems only. Patients are now required to wear a face mask or covering when you visit our office. Once again, please arrive just before your appointment time and call us from your car first before coming into our office.

Dr. Richart is available for consultations by telephone. Please call our office and leave a message. We will return your call.

We are continuing to see functional medicine patients primarily via telemedicine. If you are interested in learning more about our functional medicine practice, please click here for more details.

Update on 4/1/2020

Recommendations for healthcare providers in maintaining their practices is frequently changing. It is our goal to be of service to our patients while balancing the benefits of treatment with the risk of spread of COVID-19. It has been recommended that physicians work remotely using telemedicine. Unfortunately, it is difficult to provide chiropractic services from a computer screen.

A chiropractic physician is defined in The Illinois Medical Practice Act as a physician who treats human ailments without the use of drugs or surgery. Dr. Richart doesn't want to take the drugless option away for his patients, their families and our community but feels it necessary to change how we see patients in light of the current situation.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 have doubled in Illinois in the last four days. We have to balance our desire to be helping patients with an increasing risk of contraction of COVID-19 by our patients and ourselves. Carriers of COVID-19 can be contagious without exhibiting symptoms.

Based on the most recent guidance from many sources, we are making the following changes for the month of April in our practice. As the guidance constantly changes, this is also subject to change.

For Chiropractic patients:
  1. During April the chiropractic side of our practice will be open only for emergency patients and patients who are completing their current active treatment plans. If you have severe musculoskeletal pain and are considering going to the emergency room, please contact our office first.

  2. For emergency appointments, please arrive just before your appointment and call us from your car. We will tell you when you can come into the office. The treatment area is sanitized after each patient leaves in preparation for the next one, so you may be asked to wait in your car till we are ready for you. Upon arrival in our office, all patients will have their temperature taken.

  3. We will not be seeing maintenance patients or patients with non-emergency problems. An example of this would be mild pain or stiffness that goes away with over the counter pain medications, stretching or rest.

  4. If you have an appointment scheduled for the month of April, we will contact you to reschedule.

Services of chiropractic physicians are deemed to be “essential services” by the governor. The Illinois Chiropractic Society is stating that chiropractors should continue seeing patients who have “significant pain” where the treatment that chiropractors provide will relieve their pain with the intent of relieving the burden on the emergency and urgent care centers. So if your pain is of a degree that you would consider going to the hospital, then please contact us for consultation.

For Functional Medicine patients:
  1. We are able to perform consultations, order labs, review test results and treatment plans by telephone. We anticipate being able to add HIPAA compliant videoconferencing by April 7.

  2. Our online dispensary operated by Wellevate is open and we can make supplement recommendations via email.

  3. If you have an appointment scheduled for the month of April, we will contact you with further instructions on how telemedicine works in our office. Please plan on keeping your appointment.

Functional medicine is a wonderful way to strengthen your immune system and to become healthier from the ground up and inside out.

One of the primary advantages of chiropractic and functional medicine is the detection and treatment of health problems at an earlier point in the progression of disease. There is an abundance of research that demonstrates the effectiveness and value in treatment from chiropractic and functional medicine in detecting and treating health problems before they have a chance to progress and require more drastic and dangerous measures. It has been proven that periodic maintenance care prevents new conditions from developing, current conditions from worsening and can even reverse conditions that are present.

Please continue to be careful and stay safe. This current pandemic will pass and there are better days ahead. If we can help you with any health concerns or questions, please contact us.

Update on 3/21/2020

We are still open. Services of chiropractic physicians are deemed to be “essential services” by the governor. We are following the most current guidance which is subject to change.

  1. We are not seeing patients for maintenance care. We are seeing our current patients in pain and new patients in pain. If you or someone you know needs treatment for musculoskeletal complaints, we will do our best to accommodate their requests. We can also do new and established patient consultations by phone.

  2. If you have a fever, cough or shortness of breath, please contact your primary care physician. Do not come into our office.

  3. If you have recently traveled to areas with high Coronavirus infection rates, please call us to reschedule your appointment.

  4. We have limited availability and we are seeing patients by appointment only. In the interest of social distancing and reducing person to person exposure, please arrive just before your appointment and call us from your car. We will tell you when you can come into the office. You may be asked to wait in your car till we are ready for you, so please be patient. Upon arrival in our office, all patients will have their temperature taken.

  5. If you are going to arrive late, please call us first and we will tell you when you can come into our office or if we need to reschedule your appointment.

  6. Not all services may be available. Please be understanding. We are following the current recommendations for physician office sanitization in our patient and non- patient areas. The treatment area is sanitized after each patient leaves in preparation for the next one. This crucially necessary step takes extra time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Be safe, be careful and stay well.

Update on 3/15/2020

At our office the health and well-being of our patients and their families is our top priority. We are following the current recommendations by the Illinois Chiropractic Society, Illinois Department of Public Health, WHO and CDC.

At this time our office is open. However, this may change as containment strategies and recommendations are changing frequently.

We have reduced the number of patients that we are treating in our office. We have enhanced our cleaning and disinfection procedures following the current recommendations. Our goal is to minimize patient to patient interaction in our office.

We are asking that patients arrive at or just before their scheduled appointment time. If you arrive early, please wait in your car or in the lobby on the first floor until your appointment time. If you are going to arrive late, please call us first before coming into our office.

If you have a fever, cough or shortness of breath, please contact your primary care physician. Then contact us and we will reschedule your appointment.

If you have recently returned from traveling, we are asking that you contact us prior to your appointment and we will apply the most recent CDC guidelines for travelers.

Thank you for your patience, trust and understanding during this challenging time.
